Subsequently, on September 4th, the immigration bureau further clarified the specific allocation of each category on its official website, marking the official opening of the immigration gate for the new fiscal year. In this quota distribution, the Australian government not only conveys a stable and orderly overall direction, but also releases policy orientation and strategic priorities in key categories.

1、 Overall distribution of immigration quotas for the fiscal year 2025-2026

According to the latest data from the immigration bureau, the allocation of various types of visas for this fiscal year is as follows:

1. Employer sponsorship visas (482/186): 44000

2. Independent Technical Visa: 16900

3. Technical/work visas for remote areas: 33000

4. Nomination visas for state sponsorship: 33000

5. Business investment immigration (188 categories): 1000

6. National Innovation Visa (NIV): 4300

This allocation not only maintains the stability of the total amount, but also reflects the policy priorities of the Australian government in labor market regulation, regional balanced development, and the introduction of high-end talents.

2、 Business Investment Immigration: Backlogged Applications Restarting Review, Standards Becoming Stricter

Among the many categories, the most closely watched is undoubtedly the 188 category of business innovation and investment immigration. This category was announced to be permanently closed in May 2024, but the submitted applications still retain their eligibility for review.

1. Positive signal

At present, some 188A applicants submitted between 2021 and 2022 have received new supplementary materials and trial notices. This means that the cases that have been suspended for a long time will resume operation, and at least 1000 applicants will make substantial progress in the new fiscal year.

2. New challenges

Unlike in the early days of 'going through the motions', immigration authorities have significantly tightened their scrutiny of business plans. Nowadays, applicants are not only required to prove the authenticity and success of their domestic enterprises, but also to demonstrate the employment, innovation, and tax contributions they can bring to Australia in the future. In other words, whether one can obtain a visa depends on whether the business plan can withstand scrutiny.

This indicates that in the context of scarce quotas (only 1000), immigration authorities will prioritize selecting entrepreneurs with greater strength and potential.

3、 National Innovation Visa (NIV): A Fast Track for High end Talents

The biggest highlight of this fiscal year is undoubtedly the National Innovation Visa (NIV). This category was newly launched at the end of 2024 and received 4300 spots for the first time, demonstrating the government's high attention. The core goal of NIV is to attract top talents from around the world, especially focusing on the following groups of people:

1. Experts in high-tech fields: leading figures in industries such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and network security;

2. Researchers and scholars: university professors, senior scholars from large research institutions;

3. Industry entrepreneurs: successful entrepreneurs in strategic industries such as new energy and biomedicine;

4. International investors: renowned venture capitalists, angel investors, and shareholders of multinational corporations.

It is worth noting that NIV provides a one-stop channel to obtain a green card, which is highly attractive for applicants with international backgrounds and significant achievements.

4、 Employer Guarantee (482/186): The Core Pillar of the Immigration System

For a long time, employer sponsored visas have been the cornerstone of the Australian immigration system. This fiscal year, this category still holds a dominant position with 44000 spots.

1. 482 visa

As a temporary work visa, it combines flexibility and practicality. The applicant can work legally in Australia with this visa and transition to permanent residency after meeting the conditions.

2. 186 visa

Directly leading to permanent resident status, suitable for applicants who are already working in Australia and have received full support from their employer.

This category not only meets the urgent demand of Australian companies for scarce skills, but also provides a stable path for technical talents to "find employment first, then settle down".

5、 Trends and positioning of other categories

In addition to the core categories, other visas also show clear policy directions:

1. Independent Technical Visa

After experiencing significant reductions, there has been a slight rebound, but the overall trend remains tight. In the future, the screening threshold will be higher, suitable for applicants with outstanding skills who do not rely on employer or state sponsorship.

2. Remote Area Technical/Work Visa

Maintain 33000 quotas, reflecting the government's continuous guidance on regional development and population diversion. Suitable for people who are willing to live in non metropolitan areas for a long time and hope to enjoy lower living costs and specific industry opportunities.

3. State sponsorship nomination

Similarly, the quota remains at 33000, reflecting the government's continued empowerment of states/territories to introduce talent based on their own economic and labor needs.

For applicants, this is both a challenge and an opportunity. For high-tech elites and scarce professional talents, Australia's doors are opening wider and wider; For the group of business investment immigrants, more refined preparation and substantial business achievements are needed to stand out in the limited quota.
