500 visa for primary and secondary schools

Visa Introduction:

500 visa for primary and secondary schools, which refers to visas issued to domestic primary, middle, or high school students applying to continue their studies in Australia for primary, middle, or high school courses.

Suitable for:

Domestic elementary, middle or high school students; Age 6 and above, age not exceeding 18 when applying for 10th grade, age not exceeding 19 when applying for 11th grade, and age not exceeding 20 when applying for 12th grade.

Applicant's requirements:

1. The duration of studying in high school in Australia must not be less than 16 months, so students must apply for the third semester of Grade 11 at the latest. However, schools generally do not allow students to transfer to Grade 11. Skipping is not allowed in Australian high schools. For example, if a student graduates from junior high school when they go to Australia, they cannot attend Australian 11th grade; Australian high schools allow for reverse enrollment, for example, students who have just completed their second year of high school in China when they go to Australia can go to Australia to retake their second year of high school. But the time limit for reverse reading shall not exceed 1 and a half years (calculated based on the time of enrollment in the main course).

2. English requirements: If the applicant is under the age of 16, IELTS can be naturally exempted; If the applicant is over 16 years old, they can apply for IELTS exemption. The English requirements and exemption conditions are detailed below.

3. Guardian arrangement: The applicant is under 18 years old and needs to arrange a guardian in Australia. Usually, when applying to a school, it is necessary to decide who will be the guardian. Parents can choose to have their school or education bureau arrange a guardian. If parents have a designated guardian in Australia, they must apply in advance and be reviewed. Qualified guardians must be at least 21 years old, and can be the students' relatives, sisters, grandparents, uncles, aunts, or stepfathers and stepmothers who have permanent residence rights in the local area and have no criminal certificates.

4. Visa length: Generally, high school courses end in December, so the visa is usually valid until March 15th of the following year. 5. Work Authorization: Students who are over 18 years old are allowed to work after the formal course begins, and are allowed to work up to 40 hours every two weeks during the course period. If you were under 18 years old when you first obtained your student visa, you will need to apply for a work permit after turning 18 in order to work.

IELTS requirements

The IELTS requirement for middle schools in Australia is generally 5 to 5.5 points for students who directly enroll in high school courses. Domestic middle or high school students, who are already very busy with their studies, may find it difficult to find time to prepare for the IELTS exam. As a result, most high schools in Australia accept students who transition from high school preparatory courses (HSP) to main courses. For students who do not provide IELTS or other English exam scores, the previous high school preparatory course is usually set at 20 weeks by default. After enrollment, the number of weeks may be reduced or increased based on individual English proficiency. Visa IELTS requires students to provide IELTS scores or participate in language courses according to the school's requirements. More and more private schools are required to include AEAS exam scores in their admission requirements for other language exams. In addition, some schools do not require students to take any English exams and directly arrange language courses for them, but students still need to provide proof of junior high school English proficiency of 75% or above and high school admission or enrollment.
